No More Under Dogs!! persective of Donis Escober

Many people think the honduras soccer team is known as the underdogs of group H, for the fifa world cup in south Africa. But my peer David Suazo, who is our striker in honduras soccer team, is confident to say to the Austria Press Agency "Spain is the best team in the world, that's clear, But it would be a lie to say that we can't beat Spain, Anything can happen". You can say that we have been training hard enough in Troepolach, Austria where we been training to say that and win our first match we have against chile on june 16th, our second match with spain on the 21th of june and our last match with switzerland june 25th. The host country for the world cup, south africa, is the home country of the south africa soccer team. South Africa's soccer team have an advantage because the world cup is held in their home country, also they have more potental of winning the world cup, like spain, because their a really strong team that been in the previous world cup events before. Although our Honduras soccer team is strong and we also have the chance of wining the world cup, even though this is our second year of experience being in the world cup. I believe my soccer team will be staying in a host city, cape town, where it has a population of 1.3 million and its tempretures are warm during the summer. Cape town is also where the green point stadium is located and is one of the two semi-finals venues for the fifa world cup where we will be attending. Our soccer team will be arriving soon to the host city were staying so we will be able to get familiar with green point and practice for our desiring victory of bringing home to our country the world cup trophey.

In the Perspective of Amado Guevara

I would say that my country perceives our team as an inspiration. So many kids look up to us because they have the exact same dreams we did when we their age, and we are showing them that you can be from anywhere and achieve your goals. When we reach South Africa I hope that we reach the semi-finals because we would be so close to winning and if we don't then I will be so proud of how far we've come and I wouldn't be able to be disappointed about anything we accomplished. Also I hope to make our country proud because we represent not only ourselves as a team but we represent our country too. If we won then our country would be so proud of us and would have a lot of pride to be able to say we have the best soccer team in the world. I think that also we would be highly praised by all of our fans because we won. If we lost then I don't think that our country would completely hate us but they would be really disappointed that we lost. If we lost I think I would be more disappointed then my country. Hopefully we at least go back with at least making it to the semi-finals because then we could go back with out heads held high. Winning the world cup is something my team and I have been striving for for years. I hope that we represent our country well and that we make them proud.

History of Honduras Soccer

In Honduras, soccer, or "football", is the most popular sport. The first game ever played by Honduras was against Guatemala on September 14, 1921, which sadly resulted in a 1-10 score in Guatemala's favor. On July 14, 1969, El Salvador attacked Honduras and started the "Soccer War". Some say it was because of a previous soccer game to qualify for the 1970 World Cup, but others claim it was promoted by illegal immigration from El Salvador to Honduras. Either way, both countries had part in causing the starting of the war. The war went on for more than four years, but even after the war, tension was felt between Honduras and El Salvador as they continued to be enemies. It wasn't until 1979, when a peace settlement was made, that they finally become tolerant of each other. In recent years, Honduras has been gradually improving. On October 14, 2009, Honduras found themselves again facing El Salvador, this time triumphantly scoring 1-0 and finishing in third place in all of CONCACAF. This glorious victory allowed the team to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. This will be "Los Catrachos'" (the nick name for the Honduran soccer team) second World Cup since 1982 where Honduras unfortunately lost in the first round. However, they do have some hope. In 1993 and 1995, they won the UNCAF Nations Cup. Hopefully this time Coach Reinaldo Rueda can get them in shape enough to win the World Cup Championships.
